Coaches
On behalf of the Grand Forks Youth Hockey Association, we would like to thank you for your willingness to coach this season. Please know that the time and energy you will put into coaching this season will not go unnoticed. At times, it may feel like a thankless job, but every player remembers the coaches that have a positive impact on their youth hockey experience. If you have any questions or need any assistance during the season, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

If you are thinking about coaching, or planning to coach in the 2025-2026 season, you will need to ensure you have ALL the appropriate training and certifications and have completed each step listed below. There will be no exceptions.
STEP 1 - Complete the GFYHA Coaching Application
STEP 2 - USA Hockey Registration
Click Here to go to USA Hockey Registration and register as a coach. PRINT and SAVE your confirmation code. You will need the confirmation number in STEP 4. The registrations for USA Hockey require a $46 + $15 ND hockey fee. YOU MUST BE SELECTED ON A TEAM ROSTER TO GET REIMBURSED.
STEP 3 - Background Screening
Background screening is required for all coaches. Screening on coaches will be good for two years. If you have completed a background screening check your status here.
STEP 4 - Complete USA Hockey SafeSport
The SafeSport Training and Refresher Training are each valid for one (1) season beginning on 4/1/20. If you are not sure, you can login to your SafeSport and it should tell you if you are good for this season.
STEP 5 - Complete Age Specific Module
You must complete each module prior to participating with your team or being placed on a roster.
Coaches must be current members of USA Hockey in order to register for the modules. Please click on the link to retrieve your USA Hockey confirmation number or to register for the 2024-25 season.
Click here to register for a module or login to the module site to continue a previously registered module or to access your account to view/review any previously completed modules.
You can register for only ONE module at a time. You must complete the module in its entirety before you can move on to another one.
STEP 6 - Complete CEP level course
All coaches must have the required certification level by January 1 of the current season.
All coaches must enter USA Hockey’s Coaching Education Program at Level 1 and must continue their education with a coaching clinic each year until, at a minimum, they achieve Level 3. EXCEPTION: Coaches of 8U or younger may remain at a Level 1 or their current level.
A coach may attend only one (1) certification clinic per year (not including age-specific requirements). Coaches who do not coach in continuous years must re-enter the program at the next level when they resume coaching responsibilities.
