DIBS Info
Hosting tournaments and operating our programs require hundreds of volunteer hours each season. Tasks such as box workers (scorekeepers and clock workers) for games, rink managers, gate workers, and concessions are all necessary to deliver a quality experience for our players and visiting teams. Without volunteers filling these roles, the association would be forced to hire paid staff, resulting in significantly higher registration fees for every family.
The DIBS program helps distribute volunteer responsibilities fairly among all member families. Rather than placing the burden on a small group of volunteers, every family contributes a reasonable amount of time to support the association.
DIBS participation is a requirement for all Grand Forks Youth Hockey member families. Families who prefer not to fulfill their required volunteer credits may elect to purchase a DIBS buyout during registration. The DIBS buyout fee is $500 per travel aged player and $250 per in-house player.
DIBS Requirements 2026-2027
Travel aged players-Squirt/10U, Peewee/12U, and Bantam/15U
- 14 DIBS credits per player
In-house players-Termites/6U and Mites/8U
- 7 DIBS credits per player
Families of players whose state tournament will be hosted at home will have additional DIBS requirements in addition to their season requirements. Each host family will need to complete 8 DIBS credits during their state tournament.
UNFULFILLED DIBS
Families that do not fulfill their DIBS requirements for the season will be charged $40 per unfulfilled credit.
- Invoices will be sent out at the end of the season for unfulfilled DIBS hours. Families with unpaid invoices will be subject to any/all of the following until invoices have been paid:
- Ineligibility to register my player for future GFYHA seasons until all outstanding balances have been paid.
- Ineligibility to register for any GFYHA or Game Changer hockey camps until outstanding balances have been paid.
- Ineligibility for my player to participate in their designated state tournament until outstanding balances have been paid.
- Suspension of my voting privileges in GFYHA Board of Directors elections until outstanding balances have been paid.
DIBS Cancellation Policy
You will be able to manually release a shift that you signed up for up until 3 days (72 hours) of the scheduled shift start time. After that, you will need to contact the Tournament Director (tournaments@gfyha.com) to be released from a shift. We do this to ensure that the Tournament Director is aware of all shifts needing to be filled last minute. Any shifts that are cancelled within this time window will incur a $25/shift cancellation fee for the first cancelled shift and $50/shift for any cancelled shifts after the first. This fee also applies to "no shows". If you need to cancel a shift within that 72 hour window, we highly recommend that you reach out to the parents on your team group text to see if they would be willing to take the shift. If you are able to offer a replacement, you will not be charged the cancellation fee.

DIBS FAQS
- Where can I claim available DIBS shifts?
- DIBS shifts can be claimed on the 'Volunteer (DIBS)' page.
- How will I know when DIBS shifts become available?
- When the DIBS sign-up page opens for a tournament, team managers of the teams hosting the tournament are notified first so they can inform the parents on their teams. After host parents have a reasonable amount of time to sign up (usually 24 hours), an email will go out notifying the rest of the association that DIBS are available for sign up.
- How old do you need to be to work a DIBS shift?
- You MUST be 14 years of age or older to work a DIBS shift. No one under the age of 14 is allowed to be in the penalty box or concessions area during a DIBS shift even if they are accompanying the DIBS worker for safety reasons.
- Do I have to work my own shifts or can someone else work them for me?
- You do not have to personally work your DIBS shifts. Another family member may work them for you or you can hire someone to work them for you as well (as long as they meet the minimum age requirement of 14 years). When claiming a DIBS shift, it must be claimed under the name of one of the registered users on a players account even if they are not the person who will be working the shift. If Crossbar does not recognize the name entered, it will not issue credit to the correct player. If you will be having another person fulfill your shift, please email that person's contact information (name, phone number & email) to the tournament director (tournaments@gfyha.com) so that we can contact them if needed.
- What do I do if all shifts are claimed?
- We ask parents to understand that all shifts for the first couple tournaments of the year will go very quickly. Please be assured that as the season goes on, DIBS shifts will not be claimed as quickly. Please continue to check the DIBS page frequently as cancelled shifts become available often.
- When I work a box shift for a non-tournament game, will I receive DIBS credits?
- No. Non-tournament home games do not fulfill your DIBS requirements.
- If a tournament is cancelled or postponed due to weather, will I still receive my DIBS credits?
- No, if a tournament is cancelled or postponed due to weather, you will not receive credit for the DIBS that you were signed up for.
- If I complete all my required DIBS credits for the season, can I work more and donate the additional credits to another family?
- Yes, you may donate any DIBS credits that you worked to another family of your choosing. After the shift has been completed, please email the Tournament Director (tournaments@gfyha.com) with the name of the family that you would like the credits to be issued to.
